What the Numbers Say
Of the 35 spots in Tacoma, 17 are indoor and 7 are covered, leaving the rest open-air. That indoor share is high for a city this size, and it makes sense given how much rain and gray sky the South Sound gets. Indoor storage costs more, no argument there, but a rig that never sits under dripping trees keeps its seals and decals longer. Outdoor spots still work if you keep the roof clear and wash the moss off before it takes root. Covered is the middle road: walls and a roof, but you handle the temperature swings yourself.
Access and Security
Seventeen of the Tacoma facilities offer 24 hour access, which matters if you like to pull out early for a weekend at Mount Rainier or a run down to the coast. Check gate hours before you sign anything, because a lot that locks at 7 p.m. will not help you when you get home late and need to swap gear. Gated entry and cameras show up across several of the top-rated spots, including Glacier West Self Storage and a couple of Public Storage locations. Confirm with your insurance carrier that your policy covers the rig while it sits on someone else's lot.
The Top-Rated Spots
Public Storage shows up again and again at the top of the ratings, with several locations scoring 4.7 or 4.8 across hundreds of reviews each. Glacier West Self Storage is the smaller, more local name on the list at 4.8. Between them you get indoor, covered and outdoor choices, and several sites also take boats if you have both toys to park. Read the review counts, not just the score. A 4.8 from 800 people says more than a 5.0 from a dozen. Visit in person, look at the pavement and drainage, and see how the aisles feel for a long trailer.
